Experimenting with Alternate Methods

I overheard two high-school students discussing one of their teachers. “He keeps saying this is the best method. But he didn’t let us see the other methods. If his is the best method, he wouldn’t have to tell us. Its greatness would speak for itself.” The other student added “or he would show us how it’s better compared to other methods.”

I've completed my final project for this class. It’s a couple of 2:24 minute screen casts introducing and teaching viewers the advances in government portal data analytics.

I put together (what I thought) was a fun and unique demonstration which guides the viewer through locating the portal where the city of Chicago makes available data from recent vehicle tows.

The viewer navigates to the data portal site, then uses a Socrata visualization tool to create two bar charts analyzing which cars are most likely to be towed based on color and make.

I created an initial video which was a simple voice over (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIkNqM1rc8I&t=7s) then enhanced it with an introductory slide show and music bed ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJLL565GanU&t=4s)

The project also includes written instructions for those who prefer instruction in that format.

A good attempt at instructional design video, with the exception of the language (R rated). Definitely has a target audience, provides a solution and incorporates designer's experience with the topic.
